School Opening Update (04-11-2021)

Good evening Centurions, while most of this update is for our students returning to school tomorrow, April 12th, that is students with the last names A-L, ASB and Phase I students, I need to let you know we have not forgot about our students learning from home. I know most information recently has been for students returning, but you equally are on our minds!  Your circumstance is recognized and appreciated.

As reminders to our school opening tomorrow, students should arrive at school between 8:15 AM and 8:30 AM. To help streamline the process, we ask our 11th and 12th grade students use the check-in stations by the gym, our 9th and 10th graders use the check-in stations by the flagpole and our bus arriving students use the bus entry gate check-in. We are extremely excited to see some of our students back on campus.

As an added support for our new students to campus, all grade levels, ASB will have school tours (outside only) of the campus before school for early arriving new students. Please check-in first and head to the “MoJo” rock that is located by the planter area by the ASB student store. ASB students will walk new students around campus highlighting building locations, etc. Groups of 10-15 students will be escorted around campus during this time.  We will also have new student tours on Wednesday for new students with the last names of M-Z.

All should know that we have made plans but also know and realize there could be challenges we did not see coming.  As an example, we are told IT has checked the site to make sure all wifi stations are capable of  handling the increase of use of wireless connections, we also realize it has not been tested with full access to the system. We also know we could have students who forget to bring their paperwork, or forget what classes they are in, etc.  Please know we will work through these challenges as quickly as we can.

As a reminder, we do have some teachers who will be instructing from home.  They are Ms. Conrad, Ms. Wilson, Mr. Welsh, and Ms. Franz. Students who have these teachers should report to outside of the auditorium during the period they have one of these teachers.  We have created seating areas for these students based on specific locations in the auditorium and will take them in at the start of each period. Students in this location will work online with their teacher during this period. I should add that Ms. Kuburovich will not be available to teach for a number of weeks and we will be looking to secure a math substitute for her.  I will share that this will be a real challenge as finding a substitute that can teach upper levels of math can be very difficult. Please know we will be solving this sudden challenge and we will keep families updated.  .

As shared for tomorrow, students coming to school need their Opt-in form and checklist forms, backpack with computer fully charged, charger plug, water bottle with name on it, mask, and a positive attitude realizing the gift of coming back to school and understanding and agreeing to the need to social distance between students and staff. Not to worry if a student does not have the capability to print the Opt-in form and checklist as we will have some available for students at the check-in stations. Please know though that we will be calling the parent to confirm authorization to be on campus for learning and the requirements stated in the Opt-in form.   Additionally, students need to make sure they:

  1. Look up in PowerSchool the names of your teachers for your periods 4, 5 and 6 classes.
  2. Look up and write down the room numbers for your period 4, 5 and 6 classes.

Students at check-in will be given a map of the school.  The map has room numbers on it.

As shared in prior emails, we have had to change a few schedules to balance classes for when we have A-Z in-person students returning on April 19th.  The following students (ID numbers shown) have had a schedule change for their period 4, 5 and 6 classes. They should look up their new schedules via PowerSchool.  Please note the name of the new teachers and their locations.

As a reminder, formal check-in of students will be from 8:15 AM to 8:45 AM.  There will be daily check-in places at the main gates of the quad area. It’s critical students be prepared to bring completed two forms: 1) The Opt-in Form and 2) The ClearPass verification or The completed Symptom Checklist Form.

Look forward to our new beginning Cents.  Mr. O.
