Incoming 9th graders,
You have options. Did you know that University City High School is one of 13 High Schools in the San Diego Unified School District that has a Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Program?
JROTC is probably not what you think it is. JROTC is a family type atmosphere that allows you to get P.E. credit while also diving into topics such as Team building, Leadership, and Character Development. Being a part of the JROTC program affords you the opportunity to be in the largest club at University City High School, and affords the opportunity to be involved in activities in and out of school. Taking JROTC does not require you to participate in any activities outside of the classroom. But if you are interested, we have academic, cyber security, physical fitness and drill teams that compete locally and nationally. There is no cost to be in JROTC either; all our uniforms are issued free of charge (you won’t have to buy PE uniforms).
JROTC is not a military recruiting tool. Our passion to ensure you are prepared for success after high school, whether that means you are continuing your education, entering public service or joining the workforce. So if you are coming to UCHS next year and would like an alternative to the standard PE class, you are welcome to join the JROTC family here at UC. All you need to do is email one of the JROTC instructors listed below, or contact your counselor to enroll in one of our classes. If you would like more information, click on the link below to watch an introductory video or check out the flyer attached to this email. Thank you for your time - we look forward to seeing you in the future on the UCHS campus!
