School Update (12-01-2020)

Hello Centurions,

Welcome back from a week off! The first progress reporting period ends this Friday for Quarter 2 classes (periods 4, 5 and 6). Grades will be submitted by teachers next week and will be available via PowerSchool by next Friday, December 11th.

It’s hard to believe, but we are already starting the process for selecting classes for the next school year.  This Thursday, December 3rd, at 5:30 pm, UCHS counselors will be holding a meeting for 8th grade Standley parents to talk about classes for next year. For those who may have an incoming 8th grader, use the 8th Grade Articulation Zoom link to join our counselors.

Also Thursday night, December 3rd, at 6:00 pm, the PTSA will be holding their next meeting which will include a special guest presenter from SAY of San Diego who will speak on coping with stress and avoiding opioid misuse. Those interested in joining the PTSA meeting, please register using the PTSA Zoom Link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. We will have Spanish translation services available.

As mentioned prior to Thanksgiving Break, secondary schools in the district may now start allowing appointment-based learning for select students to return back to school after December 7th. UCHS polled the staff for who could or would be willing to return to campus to work with students and only a few confirmed this possibility.

We will be seeking to match those students not performing well in their courses from home and pair them with a teacher on campus. We have a list of around 150 students who could benefit from returning to campus a few days a week, however, given the low number of staff available to help at this point, we will likely start with only a handful of students and build our numbers from there.

This week we will begin reaching out to the students we think we can accommodate at school.  Again, these students will be supported by an educator on campus, but will still be taking their online courses with their regularly scheduled teachers online. We know this support is limited, but we also know that some students could greatly benefit by being back on campus.

Have a great first week of December Cents! Mr. O
