Hello Centurions,
On Monday, November 16, 2020, we received word that an agreement has been reached with labor groups and with the district in regards to starting in-person appointment-based learning for specific students in secondary schools. UCHS will be eligible to have certain students back to school starting December 7, 2020 or after, depending on when we have a schedule for appointments, as well as health and safety plans in place. We will start this process very slowly. While San Diego County has slipped back into the purple tier, SDUSD is still allowed to start Phase I Expansion for students in secondary schools.
Bringing some students back is predicated on a number of factors. For students, we will determine if:
-
A student is not being successful in their classes
-
Students are not meeting their IEP goals
-
Second language students are not being successful
For staff, we will determine whether they are willing and able to work with students in-person on site. There are a variety of reasons that some staff may not be able to do this even if they want to.
Both student and staff criteria must be a match in order to make an appointment system work. In other words, we need to know that the educators who support the eligible students are able to be on campus and the student has a way to and from school. Each appointment for students may look a little different based on these variables.
Over the next week or two we will be creating a plan to see if we have a staffing match with our eligible students. We will also work with the Transportation Department to determine a coordinated system for students who ride the bus to and from school.
I will share more details along the way, but wanted to keep you updated as I learn more information.
Mr. O.
