School Update (10-13-2020)

Good evening,

Mr. Olivero here.  This Thursday, October 15th, at 10:15 am, UCHS will participate in the “The Great California Shake Out Drill.”  This year students will do the drill at home and teachers will guide students on what they should do in the event of an actual earthquake. Students WILL NOT be asked to evacuate their home, but instead, they will be asked to duck and hold for 60 seconds. Afterward, the teacher will explain what actions students would take if they were at school. Thanks for participating in the first ever Virtual Shake Out Drill with us.

Starting next week from October 19th through October 22nd, we will be distributing textbooks for next quarter. The second quarter starts on November 2nd for periods 4, 5 and 6. Please note the designated pick up times below:

During textbook pick up days, we will also try to collect registration information from parents who have not yet completed this process.  There are about 400 registrations left to receive back from parents and we need your help to complete them. Additionally, during textbook pick up days, parents can make payments for yearbooks from 2019-2020, buy class t-shirts, and make payments on book fines owed. For more information, view the Q2 Textbook Pick Up Guidelines

On Friday, we learned our student enrollment for the school and what impact it will have to our staffing formula moving into the second semester. We have 1729 students which leaves us 22 short of the projected numbers.  This means we will have to reduce almost one full teaching assignment.  We will have to collapse four classes and redistribute students to other teachers. We will be working on this plan over the next two weeks and I will share more information with you once we have decided on the necessary changes.

The district has added an additional way for students to communicate with their teachers.

·  Students can access their Gmail from a district device by signing into their Student Gmail account using ####(student ID)@stu.sandi.net.

·  Students can access their Gmail from a personal device by signing out of all other Gmail accounts  and then signing into their Student Gmail ####(student ID)@stu.sandi.net.

·  If they are signed into other Gmail accounts, this will prevent them from being able to log in on a personal device.

·  For student protection, student Gmail accounts can only communicate to staff and only staff can send to Student Gmail.

Have a great evening, Mr. O
